Be filled with the Spirit as The Statler Brothers perform a live rendition of ‘Amazing Grace.’ This beloved hymn was originally written by John Newton. John wrote the hymn as a way of giving thanks to the Lord after He granted him new life. As a sailor, John was known for his crude language and actions. But one day, John found himself caught in the middle of a terrible storm. After spending hours at the helm of the ship, John’s thoughts began to turn to God. After surviving the weather, John started his life as a Christian and dedicated himself to serving our Father. The touching words of ‘Amazing Grace’ were inspired by this incredible revelation. “Amazing Grace, How sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me I once was lost, but now am found T'was blind but now I see” The Statler Brothers formed in 1955 and continued to play music until their retirement in 2002. In this video, The Statler Brothers perform the hymn ‘Are You Washed In The Blood?’. “Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power? Are you washed in the blood of the lamb? Are you fully trusting in His grace this hour? Are you washed in the blood of the lamb? Are you washed in the blood, in the soul-cleansing blood of the lamb? Are your garments spotless? Are they white as snow? Are you washed in the blood of the lamb?” The Statler Brothers put on a great performance and have such wonderful harmonies while they sing ‘Are You Washed In The Blood?’. This well-known hymn was written in 1878 by a Presbyterian minister from Pennsylvania named Elisha Hoffman. The song includes references to Revelation 7:14, such as "they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb." Many famous musicians recorded their own renditions of ‘Are You Washed In The Blood?’ including Johnny Cash and Alan Jackson. As for The Statler Brothers who are performing in this video, their group is made up of Harold Reid, Phil Balsley, Jimmy Fortune, and Don Reid. They were the premier group in country music for nearly forty years, and they started their careers back in 1964 when they did backup voices for Johnny Cash. They sang with him for 8 ½ years. The group released their first hit record during that time, “Flowers on the Wall.” In the 1990s, The Statler Brothers found themselves starring in their own television series on The Nashville Network, and the program was called The Statler Brothers Show. Their show remained at the number one spot on the network during its entire seven-year run. Then in the fall of 2002, The Statler Brothers gave a farewell concert and retired in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
