I doubt there was a dry eye in the room. The song ‘Outskirts Of Heaven’ describes rural life just outside of heaven’s gates with an old dirt road and a fishing pond. He sings of blue skies, dogwood trees, and how he would gladly trade a mansion for a farmhouse with a porch swing.
I don’t know about you, but there’s something about standing in the wilderness and witnessing God’s fingerprints all over creation. Nature is one of God’s primary ways of nourishing our souls and connecting with us. His presence is etched into the wind, the wide open skies, and rippling rivers.
Throughout the Good Book, we can find hundreds of verses about the skies, the moon and stars, ocean waves, and fields of flowers. Nature reveals God’s glory and power; it’s one of the reasons we are drawn to the great outdoors. Because of our love of nature, especially rural life, Craig captured God’s creation in a poetic fashion.

Normally, when we imagine what heaven will be like, we think of streets of gold, mansions, and pearly gates. We know every creature will praise God as we take in the splendor of Jesus sitting on the throne. To be sure, there will be no way to describe what it will be like, but like Craig, I hope there are open skies and long winding roads.
