On January 20th, 2017, Donald Trump was elected as the 45th President of the United States. He served his first term and was later inaugurated for his second term on January 20, 2025. Since 2024, however, the Republican representative has survived three assassination attempts.

In July of 2024, Trump was shot at the Pennsylvania campaign rally in Butler County, just three months before he was elected president for the second time. Grazing his right ear, at least five shots were fired as US Secret Service agents rushed him off the stage and into safety.

Nearly two months later, on September 15th, 2024, Trump was relaxing on the golf course at his West Palm Springs resort when more gunshots were fired. When Secret Service agents spotted a gun barrel in some bushes near the edge of the court, it was unclear if shots were fired back. This suspect was later identified as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh and sentenced to life in prison for his plot to kill Trump.

After an almost two-year break from major plans to assassinate the president, Trump was shot at on Saturday, April 25th, 2026, while attending the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner in Washington, D.C. According to CBN, though the official shooter is still under examination, investigators have pinpointed Cole Tomas Allen, 31, of Torrance, California. Allen, a teacher, was seen charging through a security checkpoint and “opening fire at a press gala in Washington, DC.” The suspect clearly stated he wanted to “target administrative officials,” the White House said (CNN).

While Trump and his officials were rushed to safety after the gunfire was heard, authorities believe Allen fired one or two times. Though Secret Service agents shot at Allen, he was not hit. He was taken into custody near a staircase leading to the ballroom and is expected to appear in court later today.
